  • Global pharmaceutical launching a new therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation
  • AF is a causative factor is 1/3 of all strokes, and is leading cause of embolic stroke
  • Enable earlier detection and re-evaluation of thromboembolic risk, so that the most appropriate treatment is selected, improving outcomes and accelerating brand uptake

  • Established an expert panel to identify barriers of change to overcome and potential solutions to accelerate dissemination of good clinical practices

PAYER VALUE PROPOSITION TO COMMERCIALIZE A COMPANION DIAGNOSTIC

Background & Objectives

  • A medical diagnostics client desired to enter the US market with their flagship companion diagnostic. To assure success, it was imperative to develop a payer value proposition that was tightly integrated into the overall commercial launch plan
  • With no previous experience in the US healthcare marketplace, client needed to understand key elements that factored into payers’ coverage and reimbursement decision-making processes for biologics and Companion Diagnostic Test

Solution

  • With client, developed specific objectives and approaches to better understand payer demographic information on biologics and companion diagnostic medical use policies
  • From integrating the client objectives, developed a 45-minute telephone questionnaire/survey
  • Deployed the questionnaire via individual telephone interviews with medical or pharmacy directors from payer organizations representing 70% of US covered lives
  • Payer data and insights were collected, assessed, and integrated into a final report

  • Identified factors and key issues adversely impacting clinical and economic outcomes
  • Together with medical director of a large payer organization, developed framework of a clinical trial comparing companion diagnostic based protocol with standard of care to investigate impact of clinical and economic outcomes
